Essential Gear Review: Klim Badlands Pro Jacket

September 20, 2024
After 15,000 km of testing in all conditions, here is my honest review of one of the most popular adventure touring jackets on the market.

When I set out to find the ultimate adventure jacket, the Klim Badlands Pro kept coming up in every forum and review. After a season of serious testing, I can finally share my thoughts.

First Impressions

Out of the box, the build quality is immediately apparent. The GORE-TEX Pro shell feels substantial without being heavy. Every zipper, every pocket, every adjustment point screams quality.

Protection

The jacket comes with D3O armor in the shoulders, elbows, and back. I have taken a few tumbles, and can confirm - this stuff works. The armor is barely noticeable during normal riding but hardens on impact.

Ventilation

  • Front chest vents: Excellent airflow
  • Back exhaust vents: Good for hot days
  • Arm vents: Could be larger
  • Underarm zips: Game changer
  • Waterproofing

I have ridden through monsoon-like conditions in the Scottish Highlands. Stayed completely dry for over 6 hours of continuous rain. The GORE-TEX really delivers.

    The Verdict

Is it worth the premium price? If you are doing serious adventure touring, absolutely. This jacket has become my go-to for any trip over a day. For shorter rides or budget-conscious riders, there are alternatives - but nothing quite matches the complete package the Badlands Pro offers.

    Rating: 4.5/5
